So I’m sitting in at the hospital today while Sandie is getting her gallbladder removed. Not a surprise thing – she’d planned to get it removed at some point, but that point got moved up a couple of weeks ago when she woke up in the middle of the night with abdominal pain and we spent the next 6 hours at the emergency room. She was fine, but she made an appointment the next morning to get the thing taken out. Amazing that it’s outpatient surgery these days.
Getting back to Schoodic Woods – I suppose I should finish out that story. It was a nice week. I did a lot of walking – one trail started out looking quite pleasant and ended up being a beast of a hike over a rocky hill, but the majority of my hikes were pretty flat and simple. It allowed me to build up some miles, though I must say that I’ve completely lost the motivation to get up and go walking in the morning since I’ve been back in Atlanta. Not going to make 1500 miles this year, I don’t believe.
I also had some really good food while at Schoodic. Not every day, but I did go out one afternoon and buy a couple of lobster rolls that were absolutely amazing. They should’ve been, for $59. Also revisited Spam sandwiches, which were quite good. The setup I’ve got in the back of the Subaru actually works really well. I need to tweak it a bit, but for accessibility of stuff and cooking setup, it’s great.
Anyway, I left the campground a day early to make sure that I could get to the airport in Burlington in time to pick up Sandie on Saturday. Spent Friday night back at Tall Woods Motel in Wells, ME, and got a room in a completely separate building from the other rooms. My own little cabin. I quite enjoyed it. The drive to Vermont on Saturday morning was also quite pleasant, and I ended up getting to the airport about 2 minutes after Sandie landed. My timing is amazing.
Saturday night, we had dinner at Cy and T’s house along with Melinda Rowe and Diane Neuse. More lobster – I’m not complaining. It was a great time seeing everyone and celebrating Cy’s 70th. On Sunday morning, T took Sandie back to the airport for me, and I hit the road for home at a little past 7:00. I had no real plan about where to stay on Sunday night….and so I ended up not staying anywhere. Just continued driving until I arrived home at around 1:30 Monday morning. Was a bit tired the next day, but I survived.
Since then, it’s been pretty much back to the grind. Continuing to try to clear out the shop, continuing to support an application that I don’t understand, continuing to be abused by two dogs and two cats. Actually, I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned the second dog (Ziggy) here. I guess I’ll have to do that next time.
