A busy couple of days, as far as Ahmic goes. The five of us took the boat to echo rock yesterday. It’s a cliff over in Lake Cecebe where people can jump into incredibly deep water from heights of 15-30 feet. Jamie took the plunge from the lowest level. Dianne climbed up to give it a shot, but thought better of it after looking down.
Me, I stayed in the boat.
We also took the opportunity to swim around a small island in Cecebe. Apparently, this is something that the Tall family used to do back in the day, insisting that a complete circuit of the island had to be completed before anyone could have a picnic lunch. We had no such restrictions, but (mostly) managed to do the swim anyway.
Got back to the camp sometime in the afternoon, and I took a nap. Cy made some kielbasa for dinner and, for the most part, everyone went to bed early. Retired to cabins, at least. Cy and Dianne stayed at the main cabin for a while and played cribbage. Jamie and “T” crashed outright. I went back to my cottage at around 9 and watched a movie until midnight. Slept like a dead man after that, and got up after 8 this morning. Woohoo!
Today, July 1, is Canada Day. Think of it as Canada’s July 4th. That being the case, we went to Magnetawan for the Canada Day parade. It was the second or third such parade that I’ve seen, and they’ve all reminded me of the parades we had for Memorial Day (or maybe Independence Day) in Shoreham. Wagon loads full of kids, dogs dressed up in bunting, various local dignitaries. Just a nice time.
After the parade – which, honestly, lasted maybe 5 minutes – we walked to the community center for hotdogs and a piece of birthday cake (Canada’s 149th), then got back to the cabin in the early afternoon. As it had been raining all day, I took the opportunity to head to my cabin and nap through the afternoon. Came back to the main house at around 6 tonight, to find that Julie and Don Peddy and Lynn and Rennie Perry, friends from Vermont, had arrived.
Jamie served up some magnificent lasagna for the 9 of us, followed by ice cream. Shortly thereafter, the new folks toddled off to sleep, leaving the 5 originals to sit in the main house – where we remain now.
